How to call a basketball game, Part 1
Preparing is one thing. Putting on the headset is another.
In last week’s newsletter, we discussed how to prepare for a basketball game. This week, it’s time to dive into how to actually perform a basketball broadcast once the hay is in the barn and the prep work is all finished.
I hope I make it clear as I write these that these lessons are never meant to be an exhaustive breakdown of everything you need to know. Truthfully, I’m not sure an entire book could cover all those details. The best teacher is and always will be experience, so you need to be calling games and getting feedback as you do it. That said, it’s my hope that I can provide a clear framework for what to prepare, when and how to perform it, and give broadcasters of all skill levels some different things to think about as you step into your next broadcast and start building out from there.
