Wednesday Wisdom: the Power of Belief
As you pursue what many people would consider a 'dream job,' or even a 'dream career,' none of it will be possible without genuine belief
One of the bigger obstacles I faced in getting started in my broadcasting career was simply understanding it was possible. Growing up on a 46-acre pine tree farm in rural Ohio, I had literally no connections to anyone who was actually sitting in a play-by-play chair. They all seemed like the Wizard of Oz to me. Like people who were A-list celebrities in my mind. People who seemed larger than life.
The truth is: that’s all theatre of the mind. Someone or something is only on a pedestal because you place them there. Your dreams are always attainable, always within the realm of possibility. Don’t get me wrong: that does not mean they are easily attainable. And in fact, you may have much, much farther to go than others do based on factors both within and outside of your control. But, you must believe they are attainable. The second you stop believing, you give up.
That was the most powerful privilege I got out of being around last year’s 2023 Washington Huskies football team during their national runner-up season. I saw what real, genuine belief looked like.
